The Effective Use of Literary Techniques in Bringing a Piece of Literary Masterpiece to Life
Scene Study of Dracula
In his novel Dracula, through his proficient use of various literary techniques, Bram Stoker effectively brings to life a world of bane and horror. Through the use of intricate detail, suspense is effectively make up throughout the book, helping to invoke an emotionally invested answer from the reader. This is particularly exemplified by the final scene of the novel when the protagonists ar about to carry out their ultimate plan to repeal take Dracula. In addition to Stokers cargon to detail, through the extensive use of literary techniques such as foreshadowing, imagery, hyperbole, and personification, Stoker creates an almost palpable ominous and threatening stress to the scene.
When a protagonist is on the verge of an important breakthrough or in a dangerous predicament, Stoker is unbend to divulge what is to happen, creating anticipation. As the protagonist myna bird Harker narrates the arrival of the gypsies that carries count Dracula in to the final scene, Mina feels that every jiffy [seems] an age whilst [they] [wait].
This prolonged lapse of time is emphasized by the juxtaposition of instant and age, two words that are the antithesis of each other. The direct opposition of the terms is used to increase the building tension felt by Mina in the scene, and emphasizes how every minute seemed an eternity to the protagonists in their wait.
Stoker in like manner uses repetition and symbolism to enhance the foreboding ambiance of the scene. Minas keen observation of the sunrise and sunset is save repeatedly throughout the scene. When Mina notices the sun shining more and more brightly as it [sinks] down towards the far megabucks tops, the pressure of time running out and a probable loss of hope are suggested.
