The two controversial confessions of Sir Gawain
The reality of Gawains confession has been often do by as an unresolved matter by critics. For instance, J.R.R.Tolkiens article Sir Gawain and the super C Knight and Bill Phillips article The Taint of a jailbreak interpret the symbolism for the Gawain-poet of these confessions. However, the approaches used by the two authors set off two very different views. Whereas Tolkien focus on the head start confession as he claims that it is a effective unmatched, Phillips believes that the plunk for confession is the authentic.
On the one hand, Tolkien in his article explains his own thinking about the Gawain poet; he was an author who believed in the sincerity of the games (1983: 89). Phillips even believes that the green knight might be considered as Christ (2004: 25); therefore, the church characterized by the priest has been discredit in the first confession.
