The very opening of the film is bound in the main characters apartment, mike McDermott, vie by Matt Damon. The other character we overhear is his lady friend Jo, who is sleeping at the moment before Mikes departure into the night. The director shows us the image of her sleeping because he wants us to feel that Mike is about to do something which she would not approve. The director withal gives us the notion that their feelings are not mutual on Mikes habit by having Mike reveal all the secret vagabond where his specie is hidden.
